After Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation obtained authorization from the Civil Aviation Authority (ULC), the Institute was entered into the NANDO (New Approach Notified and Designated Organizations) database. Currently, there are only 8 notified bodies in the database, of which only Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation also conducts certification of Module H concerning full quality assurance.
The notified body Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation No. 3125 has been authorized to operate under Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/945 of March 12, 2019, on unmanned aircraft systems and operators of unmanned aircraft systems from third countries. The certification applies to drones weighing up to 25 kg with a typical wingspan of up to 3 m. Conformity assessment will be possible for: unmanned aircraft systems of classes C0–C6, additional components for unique remote identification, and class C5 accessory kits.
“Obtaining authorization from the Civil Aviation Authority confirms the high level of technical and organizational competence of Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation and its key role in the development of the Polish and European unmanned aircraft sector,” says Paweł Guła, Director of the Aviation Technology Center, Management Board Plenipotentiary for Research, Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation.
Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation is one of the first institutions in Poland authorized to conduct drone conformity assessment procedures in accordance with all procedures prescribed for notified bodies in two areas: Module B – EU type examination and Module H – full quality assurance.
As emphasized by Anna Mazur, Head of the Certification Body at Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation:
“The fulfillment and continuous maintenance of very specific requirements, regulations, and procedures in the field of accreditation and authorization, confirmed by AC 237 and AC 239 accreditations, has created the basis for obtaining the competence to operate as a notified body on the EU market. The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is one of only eight notified bodies in Europe in the field of UAS systems and is the only one to offer conformity assessment in the Module H procedure – Conformity based on full quality assurance.” The authorization allows the Certification Body to offer conformity assessment services to entities placing drones on the European Union market. The authorization has been granted until September 2027, in line with the validity period of the Certification Body’s accreditation, with the possibility of extension, provided that the required competence of the Body’s personnel and an effective management system are maintained.
