Łukasiewicz- Institute of Aviation together with its partners donated free of charge 200 protective visors for doctors and nurses. Further work is underway at the Institute to produce another batch of protective materials for other hospitals.
In the laboratories of Łukasiewicz-Institute of Aviation, which serve the needs of the aviation industry on a daily basis, for several days intensified work on the production of protective visors for healthcare. The Institute’s strategic partner – General Electric Company Polska Sp. z o.o. was also involved in the action. The employees included not only 3D printing devices in laboratories, but also their private equipment – a total of over 25 printers. Engineers of Łukasiewicz-Institute of Aviation and GE use in this action their experience in modern manufacturing technologies and composite technologies. The frames in the visors were printed with the use of FDM technology, and for cutting the protective film, among others, plotters and CNC milling machines were used.
Visors production could not have started so quickly without the help of many entities that provided the necessary materials free of charge. These include Łukasiewicz – Institute of Engineering of Polymer Materials and Dyes from Toruń, which transferred its resources to PETA and PLA films, and private entities: the Hanex company, which transferred the APET film for the production of protective glass (the transferred material is enough for about 2400 helmets), Ergis and KOLBUD sp. z o.o., which also provided their materials free of charge. Other companies from the industry are also willing to help.
Łukasiewicz- Institute of Aviation is also holding talks with representatives of the medical community regarding the preparation of prototypes of fast respirators (in cooperation with the Maciej Nałęcz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Łukasiewicz – Institute of Medical Technology and Apparatus). The work on the side of the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation includes the production of valve heads for connecting two patients to one respirator.
