On May 12, 2018 at the age of 87, an outstanding test pilot Jerzy Jędrzejewski passed away. The Holy Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the church of Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church on the corner of Domaniewska Street and Niepodległości Alley in Warsaw. The funeral will be followed at the Southern Cemetery in Antoninów near Warsaw.
Jerzy Jędrzejewski was a constructor and a test pilot. He was born in 1931. At the age of 16 he started flying gliders, and three years later airplanes. In 1957 he graduated from the Aviation Department of the Warsaw University of Technology.
He worked as a constructor in the team of professor Tadeusz Sołtyk during the construction of TS-11 “Iskra” and TS-16 “Grot” aircraft. In 1960, he obtained a pilot license for flight-testing. In 1962, he organized the Testing Division in PZL Warszawa-Okęcie, which he managed until 1991.
He has been an active pilot for over 50 years, including over 40 years as a test pilot. He flew as a commander on 58 types of single and multi-engine airplanes. In total, he completed over 4,200 hours of test flights, mainly during development tests of new constructions and certification tests. He demonstrated Polish aircraft equipment on six continents.
In 1990 he was a founding member of the Test Pilots Club, and then a secretary of its board for 29 years. From 1991 to 2003 he was a member of the State Commission of Aircraft Accidents Investigation.
He is the author of the first Polish textbook titled “Flight tests of light aircraft” and a book entitled “Polish test pilots” published by the Scientific Publishers of the Institute of Aviation. He was a member of three Joint Aviation Authorities working groups.
