Smart Village is a three-year project, as a result of which the concept of Smart Village in Mazovia will be developed. The Marshal’s Office of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship commissioned a consortium including Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation to develop solutions aimed at developing the potential of rural areas.

In the case of the proposed tools, it is not only about taking advantage of the possibilities of digital transformation, but above all about sustainable and properly targeted development, ensuring that residents optimally develop characteristics and attitudes that will be conducive to future processes related to the functioning of local communities. Activities based on new forms of cooperation and existing potential will support sustainable ecological, social and economic development.

Mazovian Certificate for sustainable agriculture

In 2022, the Remote Sensing Department at the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation developed, based on previously conducted works, the concept of the Mazovian Certificate along with the procedure for its issuing.

The Mazovian Certificate will be a document issued by the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship and certifying that the farm meets the conditions of sustainable agricultural production, minimizing the impact on the natural environment while producing high-quality food.

As a result of the work carried out at the Institute, standards were developed on the basis of which the certificate is issued – specifying the environmental parameters, recommendations regarding the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and the concept of the certificate template.

The works included two measurement campaigns, carried out as part of a pilot project in four different farms in the Mazowieckie Voivodship. The locations were selected on the basis of surveys and interviews previously conducted with farmers. The obtained data was then processed, e.g. into the form of orthophotomaps and indicator maps. On their basis and on the basis of applicable national and European legal acts, the most important elements were selected that had to be taken into account in the farm assessment process.

As a result of these activities, a list of standards was created, which became the basic source of knowledge in the certification process. The result of last year’s work is a certificate template and a detailed report describing all the actions taken.

Further activities in the project

The last stage of works related to the Smart Village project in Mazovia began in 2023. Currently, information and instructional meetings are held in 5 towns located in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, i.e. in Paprotnia (March 3), Dreglin (March 17), Wąsewo (March 30), Cegłowo (April 13) and Promna (April 27).

The purpose of the meetings is to exchange experiences and knowledge between representatives of scientific units participating in the project and the target audience which are representatives of regional authorities, agricultural advisors, as well as farmers themselves.

Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation is represented by specialists from the Remote Sensing Department. Presentation of the developed digital and organizational solutions of a socio-economic nature and discussions on them are an introduction to the effective implementation of the Smart Village concept.

The project has been implemented since 2021, its completion is scheduled for 2023.
