Representatives of the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation and the Industry Contact Point “Smart and Clean Mobility” (ICP SCM) participated in the European Hydrogen Week organized at EXPO in Brussels on November 21-23, 2023.

The event was organized by Clean European Partnership. This year’s edition attracted exhibitors associated in Hydrogen Europe. Entities from outside the European Union were also present (Japan, South Korea, Norway, South Africa, USA). The organizers estimate that the event was visited by approximately 6000 visitors from all over the world.

During the European Hydrogen Week, the ICP represented the interests of the Polish hydrogen sector including Amargo company. The event was also an opportunity to present the Institute’s achievements as part of the hydrogen ecosystem in Poland.

Hydrogen technologies for automotive and aviation

The Institute presented its fourth-generation high pressure hydrogen storage tank.

Fourth-generation hydrogen tanks are mainly used in vehicles, although in Europe, research is also being carried out on the use of hydrogen engines in aviation. The tank developed at the Institute is cost-competitive compared to other solutions. It was designed and built from scratch using winding technology from resin-saturated carbon fibers. Test work is currently underway at the Pressure Test Laboratory in Łukasiewicz – ILOT.

European Hydrogen Bank

The European Hydrogen Week gave an opportunity to participate in consultations with international entities on the future of hydrogen technologies. Building the entire hydrogen economy ecosystem is an extremely advanced undertaking which requires cooperation between scientific institutions, industry, government bodies and the European Commission.

Currently, many initiatives are being undertaken to implement solutions that will bring us closer to the production and use of green hydrogen in the economy. One example to intensify investments related to the development of the hydrogen economy is the establishment of the European Hydrogen Bank by the European Commission.
