On 3rd December 2018 in Brussels, just like each year, the EREA Annual Event was held. The event is aimed at presenting the yearly activities and achievements of the Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics to the public, and offering an opportunity for discussions and face-to-face meetings of the stakeholders from the European aeronautics community with the representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament.
Every year, high level EU officials deliver key-note speeches during the EREA Annual Event. This year’s key-note speech was given by a Member of the European Parliament and the Vice-Chair of Sky and Space Intergroup, Mr. Marian-Jean Marinescu (Romania), who spoke, among others, about the plans of the European Commission with regard to the future financing of the aeronautical research in the EU.
The Chairman of EREA, Catalin Nae (INCAS), presented prizes to the winners of the EREA Best Paper Award 2018. This year, the distinctions for the recipients of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place went to DLR (Germany), ONERA (France) and CIRA (Italy).
During the EREA Annual Event, the Secretary-General of ASD Jan Pie, the Secretary General of EASN Helge Pfeiffer and the Chairman of EREA Catalin Nae, signed a joint statement on the future of aeronautics research and innovation in Europe. The joint statement shows the commitment of industry, research establishments and universities to work together in making aviation, greener, safer and more competitive. Together, we advocate for a dedicated, well-funded research and innovation programme for aeronautics. Such programme must strike the right balance between bottom-up and top-down R&I to adequately explore, mature and demonstrate new technologies and innovations.
The Institute of Aviation, which has been a member of the Association for 10 years, was represented at the EREA Annual Event by: General Manager Mr. Paweł Stężycki (member of EREA Board), Ms. Agata Wierzbińska (member of EREA Executive Secretariat) and Professor Joanna Cygler (Director’s Proxy for Scientific Development).
