Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation

Design Organization

The Design Organization in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is engaged in carrying out systemic multidimensional solutions and carrying out aircraft design work, according to the scope of approval. The organization was established on August 9, 2007 and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on September 4, 2008 (EASA approval number: AP270). The safety scope is strictly formalized and controlled by the Civil Aviation Authority (Urząd Lotnictwa Cywilnego, ULC).

Design Organization – requirements

The Design Organization, acting in accordance with the PART 21A.14 (b) alternative procedure, implements specific design practices taking into account the requirements of PART 21 and the related Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) and Guidance Material (GM) within the scope of:

  • Type Certification 21A.14(b).
  • Supplemental Type Certification 21A.112 B(b).
  • Repair 21A.432 B(b).

Applied airworthiness requirements:

  • CS-23.

Design Organization – implementations

  • Execution of activities within the scope of approval under the supervision of the Agency.

Projects, for which a type certificate was applied:

  • I-23 aircraft – Type Certificate EASA.A.200
  • Type Certificate No. BB-215 – GILC

Projects carried out under the supervision of the organization:

  • Aircraft I-31 P – design, supervision of prototype execution, stand tests, ground and flight tests, certification process.
  • Aircraft I-31 T – design, supervision of prototype execution, stand tests, ground and flight tests, certification process.
  • An-2 aircraft with ASz-62IR-16E engine – design of modifications, supervision of implementation of modifications, stand tests, ground and flight tests, certification process.
  • FLARIS LAR-1 aircraft – ground and flight tests.
  • Other expert and design work for domestic and European aviation entities.

Design Organization – scope of services

We provide services in the area of designing of the following elements:

  • wheeled and skid landing gear for airplanes and helicopters;
  • shimmy dampers and anti-resonant one- and two-stage shock absorbers for aircraft landing gear;
  • landing gear integration elements;
  • ABS anti-slip systems test beds;
  • actuators and locks;
  • wheels and high-energy brakes;
  • landing gears for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV);
  • technology demonstrators;
  • electric brakes for UAVs.
