Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation organizes an event dedicated to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) which aims to comprehensively support the drone industry. The event will take place on April 18, 2023.

Drones in a city – ASSURED-UAM

We will start with the trends related to the integration of UAVs in the city, i.e. with the summary of the ASSURED-UAM project – Acceptance, Safety and Sustainability Recommendations for Efficient Deployment of Urban Air Mobility implemented in an international consortium thanks to the Horizon 2020 programme. The aim of the project was to develop recommendations for the implementation of drone services in urbanized environment. Urban air mobility, which introduces services such as drone taxis or parcel transport, means groundbreaking changes. However, the unlimited use of drones in urban space raises a lot of questions and requires the cooperation of many stakeholders creating the ecosystem. For 2 years, 7 leading European entities worked on a set of recommendations. At Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation we will summarize the results of this international research cooperation. We will present the latest technological trends, regulatory, legal and policy frameworks and ways to integrate ground and air transport. Future scenarios for the development of urban air mobility will be presented taking into account financial aspects, operational environment, social acceptance and energy efficiency.

Support for the drone sector in Poland

In this part of the event we will consider what the drone market in Poland looks like in 2023 and what is needed for its development. We will talk about the key legal regulations, present the latest drone certification guidelines and issuing permits for UAV operations in a special category and discuss the secrets of a safe UAV mission according to SORA methodology. We will also share the strategy of the Unmanned Technologies Center at Łukasiewicz –  Institute of Aviation which aims to support companies and innovations. The development of the drone industry is not possible without advanced UAV design, 3D printing and aerodynamic optimization. EU regulations will require the reduction of both noise and air pollutant emissions. That is why at Łukasiewicz – ILOT we are working on a drone with the so-called “silent propeller” and hybrid propulsions. We will show alternatives to simulator flight tests. At the end of this section, we will present how advanced IT, robotic and remote sensing tools used for UAV platforms are redefining traditional practices used in many market sectors. Innovative drone remote sensing services are transforming everything from managing food crops to inspecting and monitoring energy infrastructure.

Financing projects from Horizon Europe

The urban air mobility sector is growing rapidly and requires financing. To meet these needs, the Industry Contact Point for Intelligent and Clean Mobility organizes matchmaking for Polish representatives of the drone industry and foreign partners from the EU. As part of several thematic tables, we will discuss the latest competitions and help in building international consortia in the Horizon Europe programme. We will also advise on how to become a member of international partnerships in order to be a few steps ahead, know how the market is developing and have insight into the strategic projects of the industry. There are already dozens of drone sector companies with whom you can make contact.

Ranking of 10 leaders of the drone industry in Poland 2023

Fundacja Instytut Mikromakro which has been publishing reports on the drone market in Poland since 2014 has analyzed UAV sector entities that have focused on drones as their main product and tool for providing services. This is how the database of TOP100 entities was created. The original method of evaluating companies was consulted by specialists from the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation. It contains analyzes of business and technological readiness, including financial reports in trade, services, production and research and development (R&D) of the drone industry. The effect is the so-called “Indeks Kowala”, according to which 10 market leaders were selected. At the end of the conference we will announce the winners and award prizes.
