On the 20th of June 2012 during the U.S.- Poland Business Summit the trilateral agreement on scientific and educational cooperation by Ohio State University, Warsaw University of Technology and the Institute of Aviation was signed. Three partners were represented by Vice President of The Ohio State University from the United States Geoffrey S. Chatas, prof. Władysław Wieczorek – Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs in the name of President of the Warsaw University of Technology Włodzimierz Kurnik and Director of the Institute of Aviation Witold Wiśniowski.
The agreement was signed during U.S.- Poland Business Summit, in the presence of Waldemar Pawlak – Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Rebecca M. Blank – Acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Francisco J. Sanchez – U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade, Ilona Antoniszyn-Klik – Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Economy of Poland, Michael C. Camuñez – Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and Compliance and Lee A. Feinstein – U.S. Ambassador to Poland.
The agreement is a crowning achievement of 12-year strategic Polish-U.S. cooperation in the area of science and technology. It is also a result of 12 Polish and U.S. conferences, arranged by the Institute of Aviation, which have always attracted outstanding representatives of the Polish and U.S. science, members of the academies of science and representatives of governments of both countries.
The object of the agreement is the cooperation with respect to master’s degree, post graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral courses, as well as exchange of scientists and students. It also covers joint projects in the areas of competencies of signatories, in particular space technology, and interdisciplinary research activities.
The purpose of joint activities is, inter alia, setting forth elite programmes and courses in order to ensure the development of the best qualified technical professionals, and sharing experiences and skills. Research programmes and courses will refer primarily to the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. However, all students and scientific employees of the Warsaw University of Technology, the Ohio State University and the Institute of Aviation will benefit.
The Institute of Aviation will make available excellently equipped laboratories for carrying out research works, including doctoral works in the area of Polish – U.S. cooperation. This will support joint projects, results of which will be implemented to the benefit of the Polish economy.
First activities based on the agreement signed will start as early as in fall this year.
