Over 450 cabinets, 100 of them new covered places for bicycles, drying plant, additional changing rooms and showers – all these facilities can now be used by the employees of the Institute of Aviation who decide to bike to work.
During the official opening all visitors had an opportunity to see the expanded and renovated building as well as to learn of the background story of this place and its originators.
– In our company the number of people who travel to work by bicycle is steadily growing. Therefore we want to meet their needs. We expanded safe parking places, special changing rooms and increased the number of showers. Cyclists will also now have a self-service station which facilitates basic repairs to the vehicle. Fans of two-wheelers are already praising these modern solutions and they assure that they will be happy to use them – said Rafał Kajka, the deputy director of the Institute of Aviation.
The first room for bikes, available on the premises of the Institute of Aviation, was established in 2004. Over the next few years, the investment grew – new parking spaces were added and the infrastructure was expanded. A sizeable renovation of the bicycle shed took place in November 2015 and it was completed in February 2016.
Today, more than 400 employees, representing up to 20% of all employed persons, cycle to work.
Within the Institute of Aviation there are several sports groups in operation, including volleyball, climbing, swimming, soccer and running. Members of these teams achieve excellent results in national and international competitions, as well as actively play sports for health and pleasure.
