On January 18th, 2018 the head of the Aerodynamics Research Laboratory – Grzegorz Krysztofiak, M.Sc. Eng, commented the qualification round for the Men’s individual Ski Flying at the FIS Ski Flying World Championships. The competition took place in Oberstdorf in Germany and was broadcasted live by the Polish Television.
The invitation for representative of the Institute of Aviation to the sports studio of the Polish Television was an opportunity to bring the viewers closer to technical issues related to aerodynamics of ski jumping. It was also a chance to talk about sky jumpers’ preparations and trainings under the watchful eye of scientists in the largest wind tunnel in Poland at the Warsaw Institute of Aviation. Grzegorz Krysztofiak, M.Sc. Eng. coordinated this aerodynamic research.
The five-meter wind tunnel (T3) has been used in the past as a research platform during preparations for the competitions of the best Polish jumpers – Adam Małysz and Kamil Stoch. Thanks to the trust of the Polish Ski Association and the jumpers and trainers themselves, it was possible to re-establish cooperation in order to test new solutions to increase the chances of Polish jumpers to win in the next competition.
