The WEPR project supporting ecological agricultural production in Mazovia, started in 2021, have been completed.

The aim of the project, led by Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation, was to develop methods for neutralizing factors that have a negative impact on the quality of crops as well as on the ecological and aesthetic values of vegetation in Mazovia. The works were carried out for two areas located in Gmina Błędów (Grójec county), covering the towns of Ignaców and Oleśnik.

– The project is the result of creating a kind of innovation ecosystem for ecological orcharding. Thanks to this, it was possible to cooperate with R&D units, local governments and technology recipients – fruit growers from Gmina Błędów. In the project we used data obtained from aerial photography missions which combined with reference data in the form of soil samples provided us with unique and comprehensive information on the condition of the soil, in particular on the content of pesticides – says Marcin Spiralski, project manager.

As part of the work, recommendations on sustainable fertilization, practices conducive to maintaining soil quality and the proper use of plant protection products were developed. It is a practical element of implementing the assumptions of the so-called Green Deal, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by the European Union by 2050.

A map portal for farmers

The tool developed within the project is a website with a spatial information system that provides access to all the data studies obtained during the project. The web portal also includes weather data and free satellite images (Sentinel).

The map portal is available at: https://wepr.pl.

The system is a prototype that can be expanded in the future and support the decision-making process in orchard management on a local and regional scale.

About the WEPR project

The leader of the “Support for Ecological Agricultural Production in Mazovia” project (WEPR – Wsparcie Ekologicznej Produkcji Rolnej na Mazowszu) was Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation. The project was implemented with the support of a scientific consortium consisting of the Institute of Cultivation, Fertilization and Soil Science – National Research Institute in Puławy (IUNG) and the Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute in Skierniewice (IO). The project was implemented with the support of the Gmina Błędów and the “Polska Natura” cluster.

The project was carried out in 2021-2022 and was financed from the budget of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, and the total budget of the project was PLN 785,000 00.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is one of the most modern research facilities in Europe, with traditions dating back to 1926. The Institute closely cooperates with global tycoons of the aviation industry, such as: Boeing, GE, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, and institutions from the space industry, including the European Space Agency. Strategic research areas of the Institute are aviation, space and unmanned technologies. It also provides research and services for domestic and foreign industries in the field of materials, composite, additive, remote sensing, energy and oil&gas technologies.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network provides attractive, complete and competitive technological solutions. It offers a unique system of “challenging” to business, thanks to which a group of 4,500 scientists in no more than 15 working days accepts the business challenge and proposes the entrepreneur to develop an effective implementation solution. At the same time, it involves the highest competences of scientists in Poland and a scientific apparatus unique in Poland. What is most important – the entrepreneur does not bear any costs related to the development of an idea for research work. Łukasiewicz meets the expectations of business in a convenient way. The entrepreneur may decide to contact us not only through the form at https://lukasiewicz.gov.pl/biznes/ but also in more than 50 locations: the Łukasiewicz Institutes and their branches throughout Poland. They will receive the same – high quality – product or service everywhere. The Łukasiewicz potential is focused around such research areas as: health, intelligent mobility, digital transformation and sustainable economy and energy.
