On 10th October 2014 at the Science and Research Centre for Fire Protection named Józef Tuliszkowski situated in Józefów near Warsaw took place a conference “ Safety on land, sea and air in the XXI century“ which was aimed at the interdisciplinary safety issues. The conference organizers were: Science and Research Centre for Fire Protection named after Józef Tuliszkowski, Naval Academy named after Bohaterów Westerplatte in Gdynia, the Institute of Aviation and Regional Research Centre for Safety in the cooperation with Fire Service College in Cracow and Faculty of National Safety and Logistics at the Polish Air Force Academy in Dęblin.
Foreword at the opening of the conference was given by Professor Witold Wiśniowski – Director of the Institute of Aviation who, in his speech, drew attention to the dynamic development of General Aviation and emphasized the need of development of the National Civil Aviation Security Program whose key aim should be safety management.
The aim of the conference was to present the research results, exchange of views and experiences in the field of safety practices on the land, the sea and in the air. The topic of air safety included various aircrafts (airplanes, helicopters, hovercrafts, balloons – including unmanned flying machines), and noteworthy interdisciplinary issues.
In the session devoted to aviation were discussed four current, multilateral outlooks at issues related to flight safety:
- Air navigation services in ensuring the safety of air transport (Prof. Col. Dr Eng. Tadeusz Compa from the Naval Academy)
- Safety of flight – the principle of maximum entropy (Dr Eng. Krzysztof Szafran from the Institute of Aviation)
- Safe handling of the hydrazine installation on the F-16 aircraft (Cpt. Karol Budniak from the Ministry of the National Defense)
- Diagnosis of psychophysical state of aviation personnel as a predictor of aviation safety in the air (Dr Zdzisław Kobos from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw)
The other papers were collected in a monograph of the same title as the conference, published under the editorship of Brig. Dr Eng. Jacek Zboina issued by the Research Centre for Fire Protection named after Józef Tuliszkowski, and what is worth mentioning, delivered to the conference participants while it was still due.
In the summary, the conference participants agreed that the first such a multidisciplinary conference foreshadows well other cyclic and vital meetings that will be set for good in the calendar of events important to the Poland’s safety on the land, the sea and in the air.
