At the beginning of the year 2017 the resonant tests of Icaré II XX electric motor glider ( was performed within the framework of the agreement reached last year between the Institute of Aviation and the Technical University of Stuttgart. The motor glider was designed and built in 1996 by students of the Institute of Aircraft Construction at the University of Stuttgart (Universität Stuttgart IFB).

The motor glider with a span of 25 m is powered by an engine power of 12 kW placed on the top of the tail. The source of power is a battery placed in the hull and solar cells on the wing, flaps and rudder with a total capacity of approx. 3.6 kW.

The object for tests was provided by the Stuttgart team under the supervision of prof. Andreas Strohmayer. Tests and flutter calculations included analysis of the motor glider in a basic configuration and with two additional engines at the ends of the wings.

Resonant tests and flutter analysis of motor glider was made on the original version many years ago by dr. N. Niedbal. The aim of resonant tests and flutter analysis performed now at the Institute of Aviation was to verify the previous results and the limitations resulting from modifications of the motor glider.

A test flight of the motor glider with additional engines is planned for spring this year. The contractor for the resonant tests and flutter calculations was the Materials and Structures Research Center.
