On March 22, 2018, the Institute of Aviation hosted the participants of the seminar “Program for the Polish communication satellite – vision and possibilities”. The meeting was organized by the Military Research and Analyzes Team.
The seminar gathered a large group of guests from the military milieu, public administration and representatives of major foreign companies operating in the space sector. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Institute of Aviation: Sylwester Wyka, MSc. Eng. – deputy director of the Institute of Aviation, Leszek Loroch, PhD Eng. – director of the Center of Space Technologies, professor Cezary Szczepański and a seminar speaker: Adam Okniński, MSc. Eng. – head of the Space Technologies Department.
The meeting was opened with a keynote speech of the deputy head of the Inspectorate for Implementation of Innovative Defence Technologies, col. Sławomir Augustyn.
The main part of the meeting was the discussion panel “Perspective of public institutions and the army on the satellite communication system in Poland” moderated by general (res.) Leszek Cwojdziński. The following guests were invited to participate in the panel:
- colonel Piotr Suszyński – vice president of defense (Polish Space Agency),
- colonel Sławomir Augustyn – deputy head of the Inspectorate for Implementation of Innovative Defence Technologies (Ministry of National Defense),
- Krzysztof Łaba – director of the Program Management and Security Projects for State Defense (National Centre for Research and Development),
- colonel Grzegorz Szmit – Management and Command Board – P6 (General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces)
- and colonel Maciej Nowak – Command and Communications Support Board (Inspectorate of Military Types).
The panel participants agreed that civil-military cooperation in the development of the Polish communication satellite system is needed. It is also important for Poland to participate in international space programs that will improve the qualifications of Polish scientists and to allocate more funds for research and development activities.
The second part of the meeting began with the speech of the Chairman of the National Defense Committee of the Polish Sejm, Mr. Michał Jach.
The seminar ended with presentations of the space enterprises on solutions for the Polish communication satellite program. Among the speakers was a representative of the Institute of Aviation, Adam Okniński, MSc. Eng. who gave a presentation on the development of satellite technologies at the Institute of Aviation
The event was held under the auspices of: Michał Jach – chairman of the Sejm National Defense Committee, the Inspectorate for Implementation of Innovative Defence Technologies and the Polish Space Industry Association.
The meeting’s partners were: the Institute of Aviation, Thales Alenia Space, Telespazio, GovSat and Intelsat.
