Łukasiewicz scientists have started developing prototypes of pressure and capacity respirators with components used on the market. Construction works will be completed by the turn of April and May, and the developed equipment will undergo tests. The project is carried out as part of a consortium created by ŁUKASIEWICZ experts from the Institute of Aviation and the Tele and Radio Research Institute.
After developing prototypes, scientists plan to produce a pilot batch. After passing the tests and directional decision, the Ministry of Development will be able to start the production of equipment. The design assumptions of the respirators were consulted with the employees of the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic of the Institute “Children’s Memorial Health Center”. The project is implemented on the initiative and with the support of a coordinating team operating at the Ministry of Development.
– Work on this project shows a fully-fledged reaction, flexibility and multidisciplinary of ŁUKASIEWICZ. Four teams are working on the project components: construction of medical equipment, design of technological lines for mass production, development of the supply chain as well as the process of registration, certification and protection of intellectual property – says Piotr Dardziński, president of the ŁUKASIEWICZ Research Network.
This is not ŁUKASIEWICZ’s first project in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week, ŁUKASIEWICZ announced the production of 100 devices to ventilate two patients with one ventilator. On Friday, April 10, 2020, the first batch of a dozen or so devices left ŁUKASIEWICZ – ITAM and was directed to treatment centers for clinical tests.
ŁUKASIEWICZ institutes have actively joined the fight against the pandemic effects. These activities are implemented under the common banner #TarczaNaukowa. Already today, a dozen or so scientific-research and engineering projects are at various stages of progress.
