Another representative of Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation have been accepted into the International Astronautical Academy and the International Astronautical Federation. Membership in these prestigious organizations is an appreciation of the role scientists and engineers of the Institute play in the development of space technologies in the world.

President of the International Academy of Astronautics, John Schumacher, together with Vice-President Marius-Ioan Piso, Vice-President Chrysoulla Kourtidou-Papadeli and Secretary General Jean-Michel Conant, handed a nomination as a IAA correspondent member to Adam Okniński, PhD Eng., acting director of the Space Technologies Center at Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation. The event took place on March 28, 2022 at annual IAA gala in Paris.

The representatives of the Academy made this decision in recognition to the activity of Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation within the area of ecological space propulsion and for its support to young people development in the space technology sector.

It is worth to mention that since 1996 Professor Piotr Wolański (representing now Insititute) is a regular member of the IAA. The Academy members are also Professor Zbigniew Kłos and Professor Janusz Zieliński from the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2021 correspondence members are Grzegorz Rarata, PhD (European Commission) and Adam Okniński, PhD Eng.

Institute representative on the IAF Space Propulsion Committee

Paris witnessed also another important space event – the annual congress of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). Adam Okniński received an invitation to participate in the deliberations of the organization and on March 29, 2022 he was officially included in the IAF Space Propulsion Committee.

Thus, the committee recognized the contribution of the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation to the development of new rocket propulsion technologies. Adam Okniński is also a representative of the Space and Satellite Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences to the IAF committee. A representative of the Institute and Polish Academy of Sciences will work alongside 47 engineers, scientists and managers from leading players in the sector, including: NASA JPL, NASA GRC, ESA, JAXA, DLR, CNES, ONERA, CIRA and companies: Aerojet Rocketdyne, ArianeGroup, Safran, Rafael and Reaction Engines.

The IAF Space Propulsion Committee is responsible for shaping the activities of the International Astronautical Federation in the area of rocket and satellite propulsion and integrating space sector. It is also responsible for the preparation of the program and supporting the organization of the annual International Astronautical Congress, where representatives of the Institute present progress in their research work.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is one of the most modern research facilities in Europe, with traditions dating back to 1926. The Institute closely cooperates with global tycoons of the aviation industry, such as: GE, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, and institutions from the space industry, including the European Space Agency. Strategic research areas of the Institute are aviation, space and unmanned technologies. It also provides research and services for domestic and foreign industries in the field of materials, composite, additive, remote sensing, energy and oil&gas technologies.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network provides attractive, complete and competitive technological solutions. It offers a unique system of “challenging” to business, thanks to which a group of 4,500 scientists in no more than 15 working days accepts the business challenge and proposes the entrepreneur to develop an effective implementation solution. At the same time, it involves the highest competences of scientists in Poland and a scientific apparatus unique in Poland. What is most important – the entrepreneur does not bear any costs related to the development of an idea for research work. Łukasiewicz meets the expectations of business in a convenient way. The entrepreneur may decide to contact us not only through the form at https://lukasiewicz.gov.pl/biznes/ but also in more than 50 locations: the Łukasiewicz Institutes and their branches throughout Poland. They will receive the same – high quality – product or service everywhere. The Łukasiewicz potential is focused around such research areas as: health, intelligent mobility, digital transformation and sustainable economy and energy.
