We regret to announce that Lech Żurarowski – an aviation and automotive constructor, a merited specialist for the Tadeusz Sołtyk Construction Office, PZL-Okęcie and Institute of Aviation – has died on 10 February 2016.
The funeral will be held on Friday, 19 February 2016 at 10 am in the Bródno Cementary.
Lech Andrzej Żurkowski was born on 21 January 1931 in Warsaw. In 1954 he received a diploma in Master of Engineering from the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology. In November 1957 he joined the Institute of Aviation in the design office under the direction of engineer Tadeusz Sołtyk. In December 1957 he was moved to the WSK Okęcie, where he ran the flutter calculation of “Iskra” and “Wilga”. He collaborated with the Institute of Aviation in the flutter analysis for gliders “Foka 5” and “Zefir 3”. He was delegated twice to the IKCSP to cooperate in the field of aeroelasticity by the evaluation of Soviet Tu-134 and Yak- 40. In 1969, he began again to work at the Institute of Aviation as a specialist for flutter analysis. Creative activity of Lech Żurkowski helped to optimize and accelerate the entry into service of many Polish aircraft and gliders, and in particular, to increase the safety of their flight.
