On February 20, 2019, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Energy on the current technical capabilities of drones and key barriers hampering the demand for mature UAV services in the power sector. The seminar focused on the areas of energy and transmission infrastructure monitoring and fuel stocktaking in energy companies dealing with electricity/heat generation. The above areas were selected because of the barriers identified in them to the use of services using UAVs.
The agenda of the meeting included: an introductory speech by the Director of the Innovation and Technology Development Department of the Ministry of Energy – Mr Szymon Byliński, speeches by experts representing the unmanned aerial vehicles and technologies supporting UAVs, discussion on current barriers to the implementation of UAV services and discussion on steps aimed at their elimination, potential barriers to the development of the drones market (the possibility of autonomous flights) and the needs of energy companies that could fill the solutions with the use of UAVs.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Polish Chamber of Unmanned Systems, the Polish Development Fund, the Institute of Aviation and representatives of the UAV industry.
