On October 16, 2017 the Warsaw School of Economics hosted a ceremony of signing a bilateral agreement on scientific cooperation between the Institute of Aviation and the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems.

As a result of the agreement, the Institute of Aviation and the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems will establish the Centre of Excellence for joint R&D projects dedicated to UAS technologies, in particular drone detection and neutralization,  research and certification, smart cities integration, drone delivery systems,  development of BVLOS and airspace control related technologies.

The Joint Centre of Excellence will also support the growth acceleration of the Polish drone market through mentoring programmes for start-ups, jointly organized conferences and technology demonstrations of Polish companies for US clients. The cooperation will also facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge between Polish and US entities, such as the UAS pilot training programme in accordance with the FAA protocols or the BVLOS airspace management system.

The signed agreement is a part of the strategy of the Institute of Aviation presence on the global market. The scope of the planned activities includes participation in joint international projects, development opportunities for scientific personnel and  transfer of technology between both institutions.

The cooperation between the Institute of Aviation and the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems in the area of UAS is also a part of the implementation of the “Żwirko and Wigura” national programme announced by the Ministry of Development, raising the significance of endeavour.

The cooperation was established thanks to the involvement of Paweł Pietrasieński – Director of Special Projects in Nevada Governor’s Office for Economic Development and Professor Joanna Cygler – Director’s Proxy for Scientific Development at the Institute of Aviation.

The official signing of the agreement was attended by the Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval and numerous guests from Poland and USA.

The agreement was signed by the Acting Director of the Institute of Aviation – Leszek Loroch and the Director of Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems – Tom Wilczek.
