The TOOLCO company commissioned specialists from the Łukasiewicz-Institute of Aviation to design and test the AIR JET 125 and 160 gravity ventilation chimneys. Both products were awarded by the jury of the BUDMA International Construction and Architecture Fair, receiving gold medals.

Client:

TOOLCO is a manufacturer of high-quality packaging and roof accessories, as well as custom-made wire and sheet metal elements.

Client expectations:

Maximizing the key performance parameters of AIR JET 125 and 160 gravity ventilation chimneys.

Scope and effect of works:

Łukasiewicz-Institute of Aviation experts conducted research and development works in the area of computational aerodynamics.

Based on the results of these works, the designers from TOOLCO, in close cooperation with the Institute’s team, introduced changes to the design to improve the shape of the objects.

The experimental tests carried out in the next stage in the wind tunnel confirmed a significant increase in the operational parameters of chimneys.

Advantage for the customer:

  • The performance of chimneys is perfected.
  • The Gold Medal of the BUDMA 2022 fair.

Team of experts from Łukasiewicz-Institute of Aviation:

The research and development works for TOOLCO was carried out by the team of the Aerodynamics Department, which specializes in research for various sectors of Polish and global industry, such as: aviation, automotive, construction, energy, space technologies, shipbuilding, defense industry, railway industry and sports.

Infrastructure used for research:

The tests were carried out in a low-turbulence TMT wind tunnel, which is characterized by a low stream turbulence coefficient, which results in a very high-quality flow field. The TMT tunnel is equipped with two research chambers of various dimensions – the larger of them (2.28 m x 1.75 m) has an assembly interface that allows testing of chimneys.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is one of the most modern research facilities in Europe, with traditions dating back to 1926. The Institute closely cooperates with global tycoons of the aviation industry, such as: GE, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, and institutions from the space industry, including the European Space Agency. Strategic research areas of the Institute are aviation, space and unmanned technologies. It also provides research and services for domestic and foreign industries in the field of materials, composite, additive, remote sensing, energy and oil&gas technologies.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network provides attractive, complete and competitive technological solutions. It offers a unique system of “challenging” to business, thanks to which a group of 4,500 scientists in no more than 15 working days accepts the business challenge and proposes the entrepreneur to develop an effective implementation solution. At the same time, it involves the highest competences of scientists in Poland and a scientific apparatus unique in Poland. What is most important – the entrepreneur does not bear any costs related to the development of an idea for research work. Łukasiewicz meets the expectations of business in a convenient way. The entrepreneur may decide to contact us not only through the form at https://lukasiewicz.gov.pl/biznes/ but also in more than 50 locations: the Łukasiewicz Institutes and their branches throughout Poland. They will receive the same – high quality – product or service everywhere. The Łukasiewicz potential is focused around such research areas as: health, intelligent mobility, digital transformation and sustainable economy and energy.
