At the end of June 2022, the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation hosted teams of three astronautical science clubs from Polish technical universities. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange experiences in space technologies and to present students the Institute’s possibilities in other research and development areas.

The guests of the event were representatives of the Poznań University of Technology – PUT Rocketlab, the Warsaw University of Technology – Student Astronautical Club and the Wrocław University of Technology – PWr In Space. It is from these student organizations that some of the current interns and employees come from and carry out space projects at the Institute.

The meeting made it possible to present the work and achievements of student science clubs and to familiarize students with projects and career opportunities at the Institute.

An additional attraction was a tour around the laboratories which helped to learn more about the technologies used at the Institute. Students saw a WR-2 launch pad for suborbital rockets as well as one of the rocket engine dynamometer.

Participants from the Institute expressed their willingness to cooperate more deeply with student clubs, including meetings with other clubs developing experimental rocket structures in Poland.

Engineering career path

The Institute carries out research and development works in the field of aviation and cosmonautics. Activities in the field of space technologies are conducted with the largest players on the international market, including: ESA, DLR, CNES, JAXA, ONERA, ArianeGroup, ArianeWorks, Avio, Nammo, Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defense & Space and OHB Systems.

In addition, the Institute implements 23 out of 29 European Space Agency rocket technology projects that have reached Poland. They concern prospective niches such as: satellite deorbitation, 3D printing, small suborbital rockets, ecological satellite propulsion, engines for carrying out launch rocket landings or powering exploration missions.

Currently, the Institute has launched recruitment for internships – see this link for details.

Hermaszewski Moon Camp

The Institute also hosted the winners of the Moon Camp Challenge 2022 competition in the EXPLORERS category.

Moon Camp is an educational project of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Airbus Foundation. Student teams start their task by getting acquainted with examples of scientific and interdisciplinary experiments that will allow them to learn about the extreme space environment.

In the Moon Camp EXPLORERS category – the mission of each team was to design a three-dimensional base using the Autodesk®Tinkercad ™ tool. It was supposed to be home to at least two astronauts, to keep them alive and to protect them from threats and the vacuum in space.

The guests of the Institute with their project “Hermaszewski Moon Camp” won the first in their category.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is one of the most modern research facilities in Europe, with traditions dating back to 1926. The Institute closely cooperates with global tycoons of the aviation industry, such as: GE, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, and institutions from the space industry, including the European Space Agency. Strategic research areas of the Institute are aviation, space and unmanned technologies. It also provides research and services for domestic and foreign industries in the field of materials, composite, additive, remote sensing, energy and oil&gas technologies.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network provides attractive, complete and competitive technological solutions. It offers a unique system of “challenging” to business, thanks to which a group of 4,500 scientists in no more than 15 working days accepts the business challenge and proposes the entrepreneur to develop an effective implementation solution. At the same time, it involves the highest competences of scientists in Poland and a scientific apparatus unique in Poland. What is most important – the entrepreneur does not bear any costs related to the development of an idea for research work. Łukasiewicz meets the expectations of business in a convenient way. The entrepreneur may decide to contact us not only through the form at https://lukasiewicz.gov.pl/biznes/ but also in more than 50 locations: the Łukasiewicz Institutes and their branches throughout Poland. They will receive the same – high quality – product or service everywhere. The Łukasiewicz potential is focused around such research areas as: health, intelligent mobility, digital transformation and sustainable economy and energy.
