On 26-29th November, 2018 in Moscow, the 9th IFAR Summit was organized jointly with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Russian Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute TsAGI, which is also a member of the above-mentioned organization.
Within the 4 days of the Conference, various thematic sessions and social events were organized.
IFAR Summit was held under the leading theme of Urban Air Mobilty. On this occasion, a comprehensive analysis on the future of UAM until the year 2035 was prepared by Porsche Consulting, and later discussed by IFAR members. Next, a series of interactive sessions on five critical issues within the area of AMU were carried out. The discussion on the topic of social acceptance for the emerging technology was moderated by the representatives of the Institute of Aviation – Przemysław Drężek and Mikołaj Jarkowski. Ideas and conclusions of this discussion were later presented to all IFAR members.
The IFAR Summit was also an opportunity to learn more about the bilateral cooperation between certain IFAR members – ONERA, NASA, DLR, TU Delft. These organizations have been implementing a number of joint research projects together.
IFAR have been supporting career development of young scientists from associated organizational units. The support program is called ECN Early Career Network, and within this program educational webinars for young scientists as well as annual Young Researchers Conferences are organized.
During the Summit, participants visited TsAGI for a technical tour to Aerodynamic Tube and Hydro Channel.
Other thematic sessions were also held during the event, including topics related to the research conducted in each of the member organizations on the Hybrid-Electric Propulsion and regarding the future IFAR activities aimed at attracting young people to aeronautic research centers.
A very important aspect of the Summit was the opportunity to establish contacts with representatives of the aviation community from all over the world.
IFAR, the International Forum for Aviation Research, is the world´s only aviation research establishment network. IFAR is established on a voluntary, non-binding basis. IFAR aims to connect research organisations worldwide, to enable the information exchange and communication on aviation research activities and to develop among its members a shared understanding on challenges faced by the global aviation research community.
The focus of IFAR is on non-competitive aviation research and development related to global technical challenges such as those pertaining to emission, noise, security, safety, efficient operations and steps to reduce the impact of aviation on climate and the environment.
The Institute of Aviation was represented at the event by: General Director Mr. Paweł Stężycki, professor Joanna Cygler (Director’s Proxy for Scientific Development), Ms. Agata Wierzbińska (Key Specialist for EU Relations) and Aerodynamics Department representatives: Mr. Mikołaj Jarkowski and Mr. Przemysła Drężek.
