75. Międzynarodowy Kongres Astronautyczny

The 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) will be held in Milan from October 14-18, 2024. This prestigious event brings together more than 8,000 space professionals, scientists, engineers and representatives of space technology-related companies and organizations from around the world. Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation will be a participant at this year’s congress, and its presence at IAC 2024 will highlight Poland’s significant contribution to the development of modern space technologies.

The 75th International Astronautical Congress is not only a forum for knowledge exchange, but also a key venue for establishing partnerships and discussing the future of space exploration. Together with other Polish companies in the space sector, the Institute will take part in presentations at the joint booth of the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) – booth number MN-A 13. It is worth mentioning that an important element of the Polish presence at the congress will be the promotion of the organization of the IAC 2027 conference in Poland, in Poznan.

Selected technologies of the Institute

  • Solid Propellant De-Orbit Motor. Demonstrator of the de-orbit engine, a key element in the process of controlled withdrawal of satellites from orbit.
  • Composite Fairing of ILR-33 AMBER 2K Rocket. Composite warhead of ILR-33 AMBER 2K rocket, used to protect the payload from damage during flight.
  • Green Propulsion Module POLON. A propulsion module for satellites based on green technologies to support sustainable space exploration.
  • Green Liquid Apogee Engine. A green propellant engine designed for use as the main propulsion system for launching satellites into geostationary orbit and as the “kick-stage” of small launchers and the main propulsion system for orbital transportation systems.
  • Pyrotechnic Valve. A pyrotechnic valve that provides fast and reliable launch of rocket systems.
  • 3D-Printed Copper Thrust Chamber with Regenerative Cooling. A 3D-Printed Copper Alloy Thrust Chamber with Regenerative Cooling that provides a state-of-the-art solution for propulsion systems.

Presentations and speeches by engineers

Dawid Cieśliński. “On development of green storable liquid rocket engine with thrust variation”. Presentation on the development of green storable liquid rocket engine with thrust variation, the first engine of this type in Europe using 98% hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizer.

Błażej Marciniak. “Highly Throttleable Propulsion for FROG-H: A Green Technological Leap.” A presentation discussing an advanced high thrust controllable propulsion system that has been developed for the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French Space Agency (CNES). It is being used in the innovative FROG-H project to enable the development of European reusable launchers.

Arthur Pazik. “Challenges in Verification Process of the Solid Rocket Motor for Direct Deorbitation Engineering Mode.” A presentation on the problems of verification of the performance of the rocket motor for deorbitation of satellites.

Dr. Adam Okniński. He will participate in the IAA (International Academy of Astronautics) meetings and the meeting of the Space Propulsion Committee of the IAF (International Astronautical Federation), and will serve as “rapporteur” in the main conference session of the IAC on space propulsion with solid and hybrid propellants. A representative of the Institute will also participate in the IAF’s general deliberations, where the Institute, as one of several hundred leading players in the global space sector, will have a say in shaping IAF policy and subsequent editions of the IAC.

The International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2024) is an excellent opportunity to highlight Poland’s role in the rapidly growing space industry and showcase innovative technologies that will have a key impact on the future of space exploration.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation is one of the most modern research facilities in Europe, with traditions dating back to 1926. The Institute closely cooperates with global tycoons of the aviation industry, such as: Boeing, GE, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, and institutions from the space industry, including the European Space Agency. Strategic research areas of the Institute are aviation, space and unmanned technologies. It also provides research and services for domestic and foreign industries in the field of materials, composite, additive, remote sensing, energy and oil&gas technologies. The Łukasiewicz Research Network offers businesses attractive, broad and competitive technological solutions. Łukasiewicz provides a unique “challenge system” powered by a group of 4,500 scientists, who take up a business challenge and present the entrepreneur with potential solutions. At the same time, it provides access to cutting-edge capabilities and unique scientific infrastructure in the country. Most importantly – the entrepreneur does not bear the cost of preparing the conception of the research works. Łukasiewicz conveniently meets the expectations of the business. The entrepreneur can contact Łukasiewicz through an online form on our website https://lukasiewicz.gov.pl/en/business/ but also directly in over 50 locations of Łukasiewicz Institutes and their branches throughout Poland. Each site provides the same, high quality, product or service. Łukasiewicz focused on research areas such as: Health, Smart and Clean Mobility, Digital Transformation and Green and Low-emission Economy.
