The 17th Polish-American Conference on Science and Technology took place in Columbus, Ohio, on May 30-31, 2017.
This conference, co-organized by the Institute of Aviation and the Ohio State University, brings together representatives of academia, industry and governments of both countries. This year the conference was opened by Minister Witold Słowik, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Economic Development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Mr. Grzegorz Kozłowski, Director of the Department of the Americas, who spoke about the political and defense situation in Poland.
The conference was divided into six sessions: Advances in aerospace technology, Advanced manufacturing, Electric propulsion, Aerospace workforce development, Defense, and Space technologies.
The following persons delivered presentations in the name of the Institute of Aviation: Director of the Institute of Aviation Prof. Witold Wiśniowski, the Chairman of the Scientific Council Prof. Roman Domański, Prof. Piotr Wolański, Director of the Center of Transportation and Energy Conversion Sylwester Wyka, Head of the Aerodynamics Department Dr. Mikołaj Jarkowski, Head of the Composites Testing Laboratory Małgorzata Zalewska, and the Leader of the Research Team for Turbo-Electric Propulsion Dr. Borys Łukasik.
During the conference, Dr. Borys Łukasik was awarded a special certificate by Prof. Benzakein, in the name of the Ohio State University, honoring his achievement of defending his PhD thesis and being the first alumni of the joint Institute of Aviation – Ohio State University PhD program.
The CEO of General Electric Company Polska, Mr. Marian Lubieniecki, represented General Electric in Poland.
The Warsaw University of Technology was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering (MEiL) Prof. Jausz Frączek and the previous MEiL Dean, Prof. Jerzy Banaszek.
The American side was represented by prominent professors and specialists from the Ohio State University, the University of Cincinnati, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA Glenn Research Center), GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, Zin Technologies, and others.
The presentations were characterized by their high academic level, and will be published in issue 11 of the Journal of Polish-American Science and Technology. The participants were informed of the next, 18th conference, which will be held in May 2018 at the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Ministry of Science and Higher Education took an honorary patronage over the conference.
