On October 22nd, 2017, at Land Forces Training Centre „Drawsko” in northwest Poland the first flight test of the ILR-33 “Amber” sounding rocket was performed. Its aim was to verify in-flight technical solutions for sounding and launch vehicles designed and developed by the Institute of Aviation.
The flight was successful. Proper subsystems operation was confirmed as well as the suitability of computational models. Numerous telemetry data were obtained. Due to the legal constraints and safety analysis, the ceiling of the test flight has been limited to over a dozen kilometers.
The ILR-33 „Amber” is the world’s first sounding rocket that utilizes hydrogen peroxide concentrated to over 98%. Moreover, this is the first Polish rocket for 45 years that allows to fly on the ceiling inaccessible to stratospheric balloons.
