On 19th and 20th of January 2017 a kick-off meeting of the DREAM project (Design and Realization of equipped engine compartments including cowling for a fast compound rotorcraft) took place in Cracow. DREAM is an innovative project co-financed by the European Commission in the frame of Clean Sky 2 programme (Horizon 2020). European Union funding for the project is 1.25 million euro. The consortium, coordinated by the Institute of Aviation, comprises of three partners. Apart from the Institute of Aviation, the consortium includes Czech National Center for Research, Development and Testing in Aerospace VZLU (Výzkumný a zkušebníleteckýústav) and Czech composite parts manufacturer LA Composite.
The aim of the project is development in the field of design and manufacturing of aviation composite parts. The project is to result in designing of engine compartment cowlings (including air inlet ducts and ventilation ducts) as well as manufacturing parts for the new compound rotorcraft being developed by Airbus Helicopters in the frame of Clean Sky 2 programme.
The kick-off meeting discussed basic assumptions as well as preliminary technical data needed to launch the project. The first day of the meeting ended with a visit to the Polish Aviation Museum in Cracow.
The project will continue until 2021. During the last period of the project flight tests of the compound rotorcraft will be carried out.
