Description: The book was written mainly on the basis of the author’s own works and is devoted to selected issues of aerodynamics and construction of aircraft with increased manoeuvrability. It contains a short description of these special planes, in which ways of increasing manoeuvrability are and will be one of the basic challenges.

In the first chapter there are descriptions of physical phenomena related to the execution of flights at very large angles of attack. There is also a general review of the work and research carried out in aerodynamic laboratories around the world.

The second chapter presents the methods and results of the research conducted by
the author while performing the function of the Chief Aircraft Constructor at the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw. This scope of work was carried out between 1987 and 1997 and concerns the developed and applied method of increasing manoeuvrability of the I-22 Iryda training and combat aircraft built in Poland.

This chapter contains interesting source information from the process of construction, laboratory tests and, what is probably the most important, from the flight tests of the aircraft. The reader receives information about the results of the research and the conditions for obtaining them. For various reasons, such data can rarely be found in the thematic literature. Usually, the information comes either from borrowed, fragmented data or, due to the subject matter, is classified as confidential.

The third chapter describes the conceptual design of an assault aircraft with increased manoeuvrability, developed in accordance with the conditions defined by a team of specialists from the National Defence Academy. The concept was based on the experience gained in the course of work on subsequent versions of the Iryda training and combat aircraft, from the classic aerodynamic aircraft to the aerodynamic version adapting
the aircraft to the requirements of the I-22 M96 increased manoeuvrability. The presented concept was intended to be a new aircraft with an original structural system, specializing in the execution of assault missions, operated in field conditions. As in the second chapter of this book, the author publishes the results of research conducted at the stage of developing the concept of the aircraft in order to confirm the proposed, innovative solutions in the field of aerodynamics and construction of the aircraft with the hope of their future use by
the successors.
