Description: This book was created thanks to lectures and exercises in the following subjects: Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics, run at the College of Ecology and Management in Warsaw and is to serve, first of all, its students. Knowledge contained in it results from over 40 years of scientific and research work in the aerospace and motor industries. It was supplemented with the results of the latest research demonstrated at conferences and scientific seminars, published in books and periodicals, as well as on specialized and updated websites. The book presents the principles of operation and application, as well as the development trends of combustion engines, containing five chapters. The first chapter presents different types of internal combustion engines on the historical background of their creation and development. The following chapters are devoted to the main types of internal combustion engines: piston, turbine and jet engines. The principles of operation of turbine and jet engines are discussed in the third and fourth chapters. Various criteria for the evaluation of internal combustion engines in the aspect of their optimal use in various sectors of technical civilization are presented. The last, fifth chapter is devoted to the future of internal combustion engines. It uses the latest (available in the final phase of editing) information on the development directions of these engines and related scientific research.
