Biography

Professor Piotr  Wolanski  graduated from Warsaw University of  Technology (WUT) in 1966, and got PhD in 1971 and  DSc in 1979. He was Dean of the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at WUT (1987-90) and Pro-Rector for Scientific Research, WUT (2002-05). Recently he is employed at the  Institute of Aviation in Warsaw.  His recent activities includes: Development of new propulsion systems including Rotating Detonation Engine and hybrid rocket engines, and the development of the flame imaging with Electrical Capacitance Tomography for jet engines in cooperation with Pratt & Whitney (USA and Canada).

He is the Member of the International Academy of Astronautics and Polish Academy of Engineering. His international cooperation during last 20 years includes, among other:  University of Michigan, University of California  Berkeley, LLNL, DSWA of Dept. of Defense and many Universities and Research Institutes in: Japan, Singapore, China, Russia and other countries. His author and co-author of  more than 300 scientific publications.

Professor Wolanski has been working at the Institute of Aviation since 1993. He is a creator of the Propulsion Laboratory and a leader of the project: “Turbine engine with detonation chamber”.

In 2015 Professor Piotr Wolanski, an outstanding,  internationally recognized researcher with a rich scientific output in the field of combustion engines, detonation and astrophysics obtained the Honorary Doctorate of the Military University of Technology in Warsaw.
