Discussions on the use of nuclear energy to maintain energy security in Poland have been going on in the public space for several years. The real potential and development of small nuclear reactor projects were discussed during a meeting with the participation of \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Aviation, \u0141ukasiewicz Center, GE Vernova and Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orlen Synthos Green Energy is implementing the SMR project involving the construction of a 300MW reactor network in Poland, under which it is planned to implement small BWRX-300 nuclear reactors developed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Similar projects are implemented simultaneously in several countries around the world, which increases the development potential of a given sector. The Polish SMR reactor has a chance to become the first in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting hosted by the Institute was of a networking and introductory nature. The presentation of the research and scientific potential, part of the Institute\u2019s laboratory space, and the presentation of GE Vernova as a global supplier and leader of solutions in the energy area, were an introduction to the initiation of cooperation on R&D projects, as well as in the areas of research, testing, prototyping and design of comprehensive engineering systems in the energy area. nuclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe meeting with representatives of GE Vernova Engineering Innovation Center and OSGE opens up new perspectives for us, because the area of \u200b\u200bnuclear energy has not been present in our area of \u200b\u200bactivity so far. We believe that as a renowned scientific unit, we can become an important partner for OSGE in the area of \u200b\u200bproject planning and implementation\u201d says Daniel Jaworski, director of the Energy Technologies Center (ETC) at the \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work in the field of energy has been carried out at the Institute for over a dozen years \u2013 currently as part of ETC, which was established in the spring of 2023 in cooperation with a strategic partner, GE Vernova. One of the main tasks of ETC is to implement solutions for a clean future. Both institutions conduct joint research and development projects in the field of energy<\/p>\n\n\n
