The \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Aviation started a cooperation with the Institute of Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences in acquiring, processing and visualizing data for the European project AlgaeService for LIFE. The aim of the project is to collect the biomass of cyanobacteria and macroalgae in various water reservoirs and use it to produce luxury products (including high-quality cosmetics or fertilizers). Research works are carried out in Poland and Lithuania by an international team of scientists and employees of companies from the industry sector.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Remote Sensing Department from the \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Aviation supports the Institute of Nature Conservation in acquiring terrestrial spectral characteristics, low altitude imagery with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and satellite imagery from the Sentinel-2 series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research is carried out on 3 research plots, which are water reservoirs: Krak\u00f3w \u2013 Podkamycze, Starorzecze Wis\u0142y \u2013 Ko\u0142o Tynieckie (Krak\u00f3w) and Paprocany Lake in Tychy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air operations with the use of UAVs in the area of \u200b\u200bthe Krak\u00f3w \u2013 Podkamycze reservoir were burdened with many difficulties due to the need to integrate with the PansaUTM system and constant contact with the control tower because the areas covered by the research are in the zone of increased air traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the data acquisition process, scientists conducted work related to statistical analyzes, remote sensing analyzes and classifications using machine learning. The process ended with the visualization of multispectral data in the form of a classification map of the distribution of cyanobacteria assemblages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Aviation has completed the first stage related to the works in 2020. The cooperation is planned for the years 2020-2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the next stages of project, it is planned to conduct periodic monitoring on the above-mentioned water reservoirs and the continuation of works related to the classification of cyanobacteria biomass based on remote sensing data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project LIFE17 ENV \/ LT \/ 000407 AlgaeService for LIFE \u201cAlgae \u2013 Economy Based Ecological Service of Aquatic Ecosystems \/ Algae \u2013 Ecological Economy\u201d is financed by the LIFE program of the European Commission and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
