On April 25-26, 2019, delegates of the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network \u2013\u00a0 Institute of Aviation took part in meetings with representatives of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), ESEN and Yunus Emre Institute (YEE). The visit was held in Ankara on the initiative of Academic and Scientific Cooperation Project of Turkey (TAB\u0130P) operating within YEE.<\/h2>\n

One of the results of the visit was signing a protocol on cooperation in the field of aviation between YEE and the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network \u2013 Institute of Aviation within the framework of the Turkish scientific project called TABIP. The project is an initiative of the Turkish government and aims to strengthen the academic and scientific cooperation of Turkey with foreign scientific and research centres in the world, ensure safe and effective transfer of know-how, strengthen human resources and develop scientific diplomacy.<\/p>\n

During the two-day visit, the delegates of the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network \u2013 Institute of Aviation had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the activities of the largest Turkish companies in the aviation sector.<\/p>\n

On the part of \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network \u2013 Institute of Aviation, the delegation included: Director of the Institute of Aviation \u2013 Pawe\u0142 St\u0119\u017cycki, Deputy Director \u2013 Sylwester Wyka, Przemys\u0142aw Dr\u0119\u017cek \u2013 Deputy Manager of the Aerodynamics Department, Rafa\u0142 \u017burawski from the Center of New Technologies of the Institute of Aviation and Agata Wierzbi\u0144ska \u2013 Key Specialist for International Development. On the first day of the visit, a bilateral meeting with representatives of ESEN which is located in Ankara in the Ankara Middle East Technical University technology park took place.<\/p>\n

ESEN was established in Turkey as a branch of the American company Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) which is a manufacturer of electronic systems and other key components for satellites and spacecraft.<\/p>\n

ESEN was established to carry out strategic projects for the country on behalf of SNC. These projects include, among others, the construction of the ISR (Intelligence Reconnaissance Surveillance) platform and the modification of aircraft. ESEN\u2019s activities also include UAS projects and space & sensing systems.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation between the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network \u2013 Institute of Aviation and ESEN and SNC companies were discussed.<\/p>\n

On the second day of the visit, a meeting was held at the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries. TAI\u2019s activity includes licensed production of F-16 fighters, development of indigenous helicopters, as well as design and development of unmanned aircrafts and satellite technologies. TAI\u2019s core business also includes modernization, modification and integration programs as well as after-sales service for military and commercial aircraft.<\/p>\n

The campus and TAI factories are located near Ankara in the Akinci district on the area of 4 million m2<\/sup>. Currently, TAI employs about 8,000 people working in 5 main branches: Aerostructures Group, Aircraft Group, Helicopter Group, UAS Group and Space Systems Group.<\/p>\n

The meeting with the delegation of the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network \u2013 Institute of Aviation was attended by over 30 people from TAI representing various branches of the company and representatives of YEE.<\/p>\n
